Vesa doesn’t get it

How on earth does a goalie surrender a goal from a sharp angle, over his shoulders, on a regular basis like Toskala did again last night?
The Leafs dominated play in the opening frame in Edmonton, but this bad goal by Gilbert Brule boosted the sagging confidence of a bad Oilers’ team which went on to defeat the Leafs, by a 3-1 count. At the same time, this penchant for bad goals has deflated the confidence of his mates time and again, just as it did last night.
While he could not be faulted by a carom shot off defenseman Ian White, for the second marker, a second chronic flaw was reopened on the third Edmonton goal. A simple fake by Patrick O’Sullivan caused Toskala to open his legs and raise his stick way up in the air for a very easy tally in his five hole.
Granted, he did make some nice saves in between these awful goals, but many of those shots were low, where he is usually pretty solid.
Clearly, opponents have a simple book that they revert to, in exploiting his glaring weaknesses too regularly.
Those consistently exploited flaws will make it hard for him to find regular work next year, unless he changes his stance.
It’s as simple as that.
